Two weeks prior, a third vehicle crossed the median on I-95 in the same area before impacting a U-Haul heading in the opposite direction. Police say they aren’t sure why the driver lost control of their vehicle, and the crash is still under investigation.

While police do not reveal the specific causes of accidents until they finish their investigations, one representative stated that these crashes are often caused by distracted drivers.

Questions Over Whether I-95 Barriers Are Sufficient 

With so many crashes occurring under such similar circumstances, some are wondering whether additional barriers are needed. The Department of Transport is reportedly already considering whether to add additional cables, concrete barriers, and other protections in areas with frequent crashes. One State Police representative stated that dividing the highway is “always a good thing.” Five people have died in the I-95 corridor since the beginning of this year, sparking serious concern among the general population.

Police representatives also offered a few tips on how to avoid head-on collisions. They say that if you see a car heading toward you from the opposite side of traffic, you should honk your horn and use your headlights. If that doesn’t seem to work, they say you should avoid an impact at all costs – even if that means colliding with vehicles heading in the same direction as you. This is because head-on collisions are far more devastating than crashes with vehicles alongside you.
