Serious Car Accidents Blamed on Sun Glare in New Hampshire

At Least Two Serious Traffic Injuries Attributed to Sun Glare in New Hampshire

 In late February of 2025, various sources reported that 12 vehicles had crashed in New Hampshire across I-89. All of these crashes were attributed to sun glare that affected visibility across the highway.

Two serious injuries occurred in connection with rear-end accidents, with first responders reporting that the affected drivers were essentially “flying blind” due to reflections from the roadway. The first of these crashes occurred near Concord, injuring three people. A total of nine vehicles were involved in this pileup, suggesting that it must have been some kind of chain-reaction collision.

Half an hour later, another collision occurred on I-89. This crash was also allegedly caused by sun glare, and it involved an empty log truck. Two other passenger vehicles were completely destroyed after colliding with this commercial vehicle. One victim was left trapped inside the wreckage, and first responders managed to extricate them before transporting them to the nearest hospital. The occupant of the second passenger vehicle was also hospitalized after this truck accident.

Is Sun Glare a Valid Excuse for Car Crashes?

Although the media seemed to suggest that sun glare “caused” these accidents, this does not represent a valid excuse for losing control and causing collisions. Drivers are expected to slow down whenever they experience adverse conditions – including impaired visibility.
