Drunk Drivers Cause Numerous Crashes in New Hampshire
Over the past few weeks, numerous drunk drivers have caused serious crashes in New Hampshire. Intoxication is a major traffic hazard, and DUI crashes cause countless deaths and serious injuries each year. What can you do if a drunk driver harmed you or someone you love? Is it possible to hold them accountable by filing an auto accident lawsuit?
Drunk Driver Strikes and Kills Bear in Hollis
In November of 2024, a driver was taken into custody after striking and killing a bear in Hollis. Police say that the intoxicated driver was heading down Broad Street at about 6:00 PM when he struck a bear, killing the animal. His vehicle was assumedly damaged in the collision, causing police to arrive at the scene and investigate the crash further.
At this point, police determined that the driver had a BAC level of .17 – over twice the legal limit. They also found that he had been driving with an open container in his vehicle. This led to a number of criminal charges, including aggravated DUI.
To make this story even more bizarre, the person who picked up this defendant from the police station was driving on a suspended license and registration. As a result, she was issued a summons and ordered to appear in court at a later date.
This accident could have been much worse. Although the loss of a bear is sad, it would have been much more tragic for local families if a human being had been struck and killed instead. At least the sacrifice of this animal ensured that an intoxicated driver was discovered and arrested. One can only hope that the bear’s death will prevent this driver from getting behind the wheel while intoxicated in the future.
Drunk Driver Rolls His Mercedes in Pelham
At around the same time, a drunk driver rolled his Mercedes in Pelham. This accident led to his arrest, and police say they found his vehicle more than 30 feet away from the road in a field. He was treated for minor injuries, and no one else was hurt.
Like the incident involving the bear, this crash could have been much worse. If the driver had a passenger in his vehicle, they may have suffered serious injuries in the rollover. In New Hampshire, passengers can sue their drivers for injuries caused by negligence – including intoxication.
